How to comply with the J1/J2 Visa Insurance requirements

To comply, you must meet or exceed the medical insurance requirements:

  • Medical benefits (per accident/injury or illness) of $100,000 (or more)
  • Deductible of $500 (or less)
  • Coinsurance of 75% (or more)

The other J1/J2 insurance requirements are met by all insurance plans:

  • Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000 or more
  • Expenses for medical evacuation to home country in the amount of $50,000 or more
  • Coverage of pre-existing conditions after a reasonable waiting period
  • A.M. Best rating of A- for the underwriting insurance company or better
